Date & Chia Seed Energy Balls (Recipe)

Poor nutrition intake by seniors can contribute to functional decline, increased falls, muscle loss, weakened bones and an overall reduced quality of life. As family caregivers we not only need to be aware of what our loved ones are eating during meals, but being aware of what kind of snacks they are eating is equally important.

Date & Chia Seed Energy Balls are not only fibre rich, packed with nutrients and tasty, they are easy to make. Encouraging seniors to participate in making meals and snacks gets them mobile, exercises their motor skills and can help improve their confidence. Make an event of it, make them together and have some fun spending time with the one you love.

  • 8 oz dates (soaked in hot water for 15 mins)

  • 2 oz chia Seeds

  • 2 oz raw almonds

  • 3 tablespoons cocoa

  • pinch of salt optional
