Baked Salmon Belly

Staying healthy as you age is very important and a balanced diet is a great place to start. Studies have said that eating fish on a regular basis can help improve heart health, fight Alzheimer's Disease, protect your sight, maintain joint health and keep your bones strong.

Sometimes seen as an offcut, salmon belly is a truly delicious piece of fish – it’s packed full of flavour and has all the goodness of omega-3. The good news is that by buying fish belly you can grab yourself a great deal and enjoy a healthy and delicious meal or snack.

A little known secret is that in many supermarkets in Vancouver, BC you can get salmon belly for up to 1/4 of the price of regular priced salmon. Some markets will mix various species of salmon in the packaging and others will package by species. If your market does not have salmon belly readily available ask someone from the fish department to see if they have stock in the back.


Baked Salmon Belly Recipe

Salmon Belly can be a delicious part of a balanced meal or as a nutritious snack.

Baked Salmon Belly: a mouth-watering seafood dish that is marinated and baked until golden brown.

Recipe

Ingredients: 500 grams Salmon belly, cut into strips 2 tablespoons chopped spring onions 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil


Marinade Ingredients: 1 tablespoon garlic powder 2 tablespoons grated ginger 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil 3 tablespoons oyster sauce 4 tablespoons soy sauce 3 tablespoons lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder


Instructions: Part 1 1. Mix marinade ingredients in a large bowl

2. Marinate salmon belly for at least 30 minutes inside the fridge.

Part 2 1. Preheat oven at 300 degrees Fahrenheit. 2. Line a baking pan with aluminum foil or parchment paper and lightly cover with extra virgin olive oil. 3. Arrange marinated salmon belly on the baking pan and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. 4. Transfer to a serving plate and sprinkle with green onions.

5. Serve and enjoy
